Martina Lazioli

Martina Lazioli is an IMBRSea Master’s student who joined the Procaccini group at the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn in Naples to conduct her thesis research. Her project focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying stress memory in the seagrass Cymodocea nodosa, investigating how prior exposure to thermal stress may shape future responses and potentially influence the resilience of subsequent plant generations. In particular, she explores the relationship between gene expression patterns and DNA methylation dynamics to better understand how epigenetic regulation may contribute to stress memory in marine plants.
Martina holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biomolecular Sciences and Technology from the University of Trento, where she developed a strong interest in molecular biology and gene regulation. During her master’s studies, she became increasingly interested in marine ecology and conservation, motivating her to combine these interests to investigate how molecular mechanisms can help explain the resilience of marine ecosystems under environmental change.
Outside the lab, she enjoys spending time outdoors, especially between the sea and the mountains.
