Jessica Pazzaglia

I am a lover of nature and I like to spend my free time doing different activities from climbing to photography. I graduated in Biological Science and then I specialized my scientific interest in the Ecology of global changes. After a period spent at the Oceanography Division of OGS, studying benthic marine communities, I explored the resilience of seagrass ecosystems (i.e. Posidonia oceanica) to single and multiple stressors (i.e. temperature and eutrophication). During my Ph.D., I studied seagrass responses to stressors using multilevel approaches: morphology, physiology, transcriptomics, and epigenetics. Currently, my main scientific interest is in stress memory and its inheritance to next generations exploring transcriptomic and DNA methylation profiles in young and adult plants. To this end, I performed a mesocosm experiment using the priming technique, a valuable approach widely used in terrestrial ecology. Understanding the molecular basis of a stress memory in seagrasses could have important implications for exploring the extraordinary adaptive abilities and for improving future directions of restoration programs of these important ecosystems.
