Seaweeds
ecophysiology

This research line focuses on the ecological role of benthic seaweed communities in coastal marine ecosystems.

Response evaluation is based on understanding the ecophysiological responses of seaweeds to stressors, exploring seaweed capacity to acclimate and adapt across different environmental conditions. By examining metabolic performance as an indicator of organismal health, we assess how environmental variability influences seaweed function and the stability of associated communities.

Our approach integrates experimental work, both in controlled laboratory settings and in natural environments, with broader ecological analyses. This multidisciplinary perspective, spanning from individual organisms to whole ecosystems, aims to enhance our understanding of coastal ecosystem functioning and to support the evaluation and conservation of the ecosystem services provided by seaweed-dominated habitats.
